Will Smith more or less plays himself in this good-natured NBC sitcom. As the show's popular theme song explains, fictional Will's mom sends him away from his rough Philadelphia neighborhood to live with wealthy Uncle Phil and Aunt Vivian in Bel-Air. Will often has fun at the expense of stuck-up cousins Carlton and Hilary.

Uncle Phil is one of the greatest TV dads of all time

Dr. Doof from Phineas and Ferb!
Rest In Peace
Jeff Pollack 1959-2013
James Avery 1945-2013
and Richard Roundtree 1942-2023
This was definitely one of the most iconic sitcoms of the 90’s. Even Will Smith himself makes this so entertaining to watch.
James Avery was perfect for the role of Uncle Phil. Rest in Peace James Avery. You will always be Uncle Phil and Shredder.
This show was my childhood.
Also this wasn't just Will Smith's breakout role its the one first role he ever had, before this he was a rapper.
9:47 Fun fact: This scene was apparently improvised by Will Smith. Apparently originally in the script he was just supposed to sit at the piano
19:56 Jazzy Jeff. He was Will's Dj during his rap career
Fun fact: Today actually marks the 34th year anniversary of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air pilot episode
Geoffrey and Niles from The Nanny were butlers who roasted everyone, I would've loved a crossover to see who would've beaten who at a game of roasting.
Ashley's music journey is so well done and love that Will helped her. Cant wait to see your reaction to some of her big moments. Oh and real excited for you to see the Carlton dance for the first time.
13:40 is a joke about his song "Parents Just Don't Understand" if I'm not mistaken. In that song there's a line that says "I said mom what are you doing, you're ruining my rep". Then the next line says "She said you're only 16 you don't have a rep yet". I love that song.
Interesting fact. For Men in Black (Don’t know if you have seen it or not)
Originally they wanted Denzel Washington to play Smith’s role but because the directors wife was a Fresh Prince fan she recommended Smith.
RIP James Avery who played Uncle Phil amazingly 🙏🏻🕊 him along with Will, Ashley and Carlton are my favorite characters on the show 🤣💕📺
23:39 best running gag
5:37 There’s Alfonso! The current host of AFV! He’s cool
I’m SO excited for you to react to this show! It’s really good and no one else is doing reactions to it.
You are in for a wild ride. This show is fantastic. Uncle Phil is one of the best tv Dad's that has ever existed. To me Geoffrey gets the best jokes.
Really, the TV dad that was hands down the best was Jonathan Kent and then it's Uncle Phil, Mr. Cunningham, Sheriff Andy Taylor, Uncle Jessie, Carl Winslow, Tim Taylor, Ward Cleaver and Mike Brady fighting for second. Everything the TV dads faced, Jonathan faced as well, while raising a super strong, super fast, invulnerable teenager that could fly and that would go on to become the greatest hero in the Metaverse. A hero that all other heroes look to for inspiration and whom always hearkens back to what he learned from Jon Kent, which is why Jon Kent wins the Best TV Dad Award.
Fun fact the guy who played uncle phil(james Avery) played/voiced shredder in 80s teenage ninja turtles
And War Machine in Iron Man the animated series.
A fan favourite of this show
Thank you for starting the series Cody
I love the part where Will walks into Ashley's room and starts dancing with her 😂 Please continue this show, Cody 🙏
4:26, Benson is the name of an 80s TV sitcom about a black butler named Benson. So Will is basically saying that Geoffrey, as his uncle's butler, is Benson.
24:14 was a reference to the Cosby Show. Theo was his son's character's name
I watched this show for the first time back in 2019. Best year of my life, and this show is one of the reasons
This is a great sitcom!
I used to stay up till 10 to watch this show on the WB Network, every Friday night.
Jazz was played by DJ Jazzy Jeff. Him and The Fresh Prince recorded a couple more than a few songs together.
This brings me back so good memories. Everyday, back from school, turn on the TV and watch having lunch. This is going to be the first time I'm watching without the Brazilian dubbing. This is going to be a delight, Cody.
Hey, you're from Brazil? So am I!
Aah yes😃! I love Fresh Prince! Never gets boring😁👌🏻 So glad you're doing reaction to this wonderful tv show 😄👏🏻❤️!
Keep watching this show it gets better as the seasons go on and progress
this is still one of my fave shows from this time period...mix that with one of my favorite reactors its gonna be great
aw cool, i remember watching this under the recommendation of my mom. i never watched the whole show, but i can't forget the first few episodes. you're in for a treat!
Iconic tv show and a big part of my childhood. In the first season Wil Smith memorized everyone’s lines and during dialog in the show you can sometimes see Wil mouthing the other actors’ lines. Once you see it tho, you can’t unsee it😅
Yeah, the moment that Will joined the Banks family is when Uncle Phil’s blood pressure will never be the same. Will’s the only one who can spike it up real quick and easy.
13:40 nice reference to will's "parents just dont understand" song
That was Jazzy Jeff who you asked who was that?. Him and Will were a group,Jazzy Jeff and The fresh Prince, and they were the first ever to win a Grammy for Hip Hop.
I started binge watching this at home way before you started. I can’t believe how so little I remember considering how the show played on Nick at Nite when I was little.
So glad you’re watching this. One of my favorites! Family Matters is a good one too.
Man one of my favorite shows growing up! RIP Uncle Phil 😢

your starting a classic I love it
This show is classic
wayyyy back in the 90's!
Will Smith is a legend ❤😂. Need to watch more of this show for the first time. First heard of him from Independence Day, Men in Black, Bad Boys, and how I do know that Will Smith took inspiration from this show for his performance as Genie in Aladdin.
Not gonna lie, I love watching this show. It's so funny and I remember watching it. I'm so glad your going to react this
YES PLEASE, CONTINUE THIS SHOW 🙏 GREAT STORYLINES
27:35 his laugh!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
There is definitely character development. Will enjoys teasing Carlton and you will see where the Carlton dance came from. ❤
You, good sir, are in for a treat with this show and will laugh your butt off at it! Congratulations for getting to react to it!
That 70s showww😭❤️
The theme song is very catchy
If I was in that fancy setting I would make myself the biggest fool almost instantly.
Oh my god, yes, this show is one of my favorite shows of all time , i'm so excited for it.
Yay!!!! I love this show so much!!! I can’t wait to watch it again with you!!!!
You're watching one of greatest TV shows of the 90s.
RIP Uncle Phil
Loved this show was a big part of my childhood watched it at least 11 times
The show where the legend of Will Smith started❤❤❤
Great reaction and you're the first I've seen react to this.
I watch this show when I was kid and then a teenager
29:43 when Cody says okay 50 shade of grey 😂😂😂
Will smith shouldve been a comedian. His timing and his acting is funny and great.
The you don't have a rep yet line wasa line from one of Will's song Parents Don't Understand
Awesome reaction of my favorite The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air episode!!!!!😊😊😊😊😊
This show was wildly entertaining also RIP uncle phil
They were known as DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince. That is his DJ from his songs.
I love the constant fourth wall breaks in this show. But other than that, you’re going to love this show, it’s really funny! 😂😂😂
I’m so excited Part 2 Fresh Prince of Bel Air Reaction Season 1
Yeah my cousins in the 90s had bright colored rooms like that. Pink, green, blue, you name it.
The Benson joke in the pilot was a shoutout to a famous older sitcom, Benson, about a butler of that name. When Fresh Prince aired he would've the go-to reference for a black TV butler.
this was a welcome surprise! I'm looking forward to your reactions to the rest of the series. I'm a Philly native and remember being so hyped about Will's backstory as a kid from the streets of Philly.
I love how nonchalant will is
Allways good to have a great start.
Cody, now you have me hoping one day you will react to "the nanny" one day
That show was the only TV show that captured my full attention on my Nanny’s TV
29:43-29:49 his laugh!!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great show can't wait for this journey
HELL YES! FRESH PRINCE IS PEAK! Enjoy the series~
Cody may I suggest everytime Jazz is about to get thrown out you say Assume the position. Its funny
That's jazzy Jeff When will smith was a rapper that was his DJ
The Fresh Prince of Bel Air is awesome and funny. I love the casts
👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾💖💖💖🤣🤣🤣
Thank you for choosing to react to this show Cody! It’s six seasons of awesome comedy and heart!
So excited to watch you watch this ❤
Great to see people react to Fresh Prince. It's honestly one of the best sitcoms ever!!
Subscribed. You have reconnected me to the wholesome nature of this show. I'll enjoy rewatching this with you
I can't believe you don't know the Carlton
As someone who didn’t grow up with the show, seeing Alfonzo Rivero in it gave me whiplash
This is the greatest news I’ve ever heard.
You know when Jazz is about be thrown is when he wears the same shirt he's wearing in "Ashley Plays the Drums"
Benson was another tv show that the voice of rafifi in the lion king played in
This & the Martin show were my fav sit coms & my mom & dad both loved this when they were kids
24:15 Theo Huxtable (son) from Cliff Huxtable (father) from The Cosby Show. No longer a pleasant subject if you happen to know who Bill Cosby is today.
Ur a legend for this 🎉
One of my FAVORITE shows alongside Friends!!! I can’t wait to see your reactions to it.
JAZZ!!!
And so, we will see the reoccurring joke of him always being thrown out
Theo was the son in "the Cosby show" The Cosby show was huge. No one will air that anymore though....
cody.. your tattoos are so nice!
His name is Jazz Z he wrote all will smith’s music for he’s first 3 CD’s
7:51 Thank you God for this stupid food made me laugh so hard
Theo was the son on The Cosby Show
I’m glad you’re doing Reactions to one of my Favorite Shows! Can’t wait to see more!
Definitely continue with Fresh Prince.
A while ago back i did watch the fresh prince of Bel air and now i know what they hype is about, there is a very famous dance, that is in one of the episode later on during the season very iconic scene you see what i mean when you get to it. Even though i love the show i think it sort of threw me off of the Will Smith thing what he did with Chris Rock and just slapped him during the oscars that was so awful for him to do live by the way, so ever since then i hadn’t been able to watch or listen to his music because of what he did, but that aside that was before that happened when i watch the show.
But that’s just how i personally feel about it, but other than that still a great show.
i looked it up, jazz is apparently dj jazzy jeff. apparently, he and will smith were a musical duo.
I don't know if this was intentional, but you uploaded this video exactly 34 years after this show premiered on September 10, 1990.
